Dental and Oral Health

Today, gum disease is the major cause of tooth loss in patients over the age of 35. It is critical to take care of your teeth through oral hygiene as you age.

Oral cancer is currently on the rise. The use of tobacco products increases your chances of developing oral cancer significantly. It is estimated that nearly 70% of all oral cancer incidents are potentially preventable by eliminating smoking, reducing alcohol consumption and increasing fruit and vegetable consumption in the diet. Canadian men have a greater chance of developing oral cancer than cancer of the stomach, kidney or pancreas, or of leukemia or melanoma.

Another thing to remember in oral dental health is your tongue and gums. Your teeth are not the only things that need to remain healthy in order to keep a nice smile. Brushing your tongue every time you brush your teeth will aid in preventing bad breath and cancer.
